Most people view lawn mowers as the most important product for their yard, but other products can be just as vital. String trimmers and lawn edgers may not mow the lawn, but they will help give your yard a well-manicured look. String trimmers are used to trim the grass in tight spots that a lawn mower can’t reach, like along a fence, under decks, or near delicate plants and shrubs. On the other hand, lawn edgers are used to clean up borders along sidewalks and driveways. Before you purchase a string trimmer or lawn edger, it’s helpful to learn the different types of products available.
Feature | String Trimmer | Edger |
---|---|---|
Cutting method | Rotating string | Rotating blade |
Cutting width | Variable | Narrow |
Cutting depth | Shallow | Deep |
There are two different types of Troy-Bilt gas string trimmers to fit your needs:
2-cycle trimmers: The 2-cycle trimmer models require mixing oil and gas, so you’ll need to keep it on hand in a separate fuel container for your string trimmer.
4-cycle trimmers: Large 4-cycle trimmers use gasoline only, like your tractor or lawn mower. They don’t require the mixing of oil and gas. Oil for lubrication is in a separate reservoir in the engine.
String trimmers also have different kinds of shafts to fit your needs:
Curved shaft trimmers: Curved shaft trimmer models, like the TB25CB Curved Shaft String Trimmer, are typically lighter weight and ideal for smaller yards with few shrubs. They are well suited to close trimming around ornamentals and intricate work.
Straight shaft trimmers: Straight shaft trimmers, like the TB252S Straight Shaft String Trimmer , are good for large yards, and reaching under decks and around trees, patios and larger shrubs. For tall users, straight shaft trimmers also help provide comfort when using and can help minimize fatigue.
Troy-Bilt offers two types of edgers for your lawn:
Wheeled Edgers: These lawn edgers can provide the power and versatility for creating that perfect finished look for your yard. They can cover a large area quickly and are ideal for creating new edges or working in heavy vegetation. The TBE304 Driveway Edger is perfect for cutting a clean edge along driveways and walks. It features a 9" dual-tipped steel blade edging with a 1.75" max depth.
Stick Edgers: Troy-Bilt’s stick edgers, like the TBE252 Straight Shaft Lawn Edger, are easier to handle and ideal for maintaining your lawn’s edge throughout the season. Beyond that, the TBE252 edger provides versatility for completing yard tasks and using minimal storage space as it's compatible with all TrimmerPlus® attachments.
Adding a string trimmer and lawn edger to your shed will help your lawn look polished in no time.
